In occasione dell’inizio del Tempo del creato, iniziato il 1° settembre 2025, le volontarie dell’Eco Charity Garden si sono riunite per celebrare la decima giornata Mondiale di Preghiera per la Cura del Creato che ricorre ogni anno in questo giorno. Il Tempo del Creato è un periodo ecumenico di preghiera, riflessione e impegno che si estenderà fino al 4 ottobre, giorno di San Francesco d’Assisi, è un’occasione per «L’obiettivo non è di raccogliere informazioni o saziare la nostra curiosità, ma di prendere dolorosa coscienza, osare trasformare in sofferenza personale quello che accade al mondo, e così riconoscere qual è il contributo che ciascuno può portare». Il tema scelto per il 2025 è “Semi di Pace e di Speranza”, Papa Leone XIV nel messaggio per la X giornata mondiale per la cura del creato afferma “Nel 10° anniversario dell’istituzione della Giornata, avvenuta in concomitanza con la pubblicazione dell’Enciclica Laudato si’, ci troviamo nel vivo del Giubileo, “pellegrini di Speranza”. E proprio in questo contesto il tema acquista il suo pieno significato.”
I partecipanti hanno avuto l’occasione per riflettere sul contenuto del messaggio del papa, per vivere una celebrazione simbolica e piantare il seme della speranza nei vasconi di ECG.
Continua il Papa “ […] Il seme si consegna interamente alla terra e lì, con la forza dirompente del suo dono, la vita germoglia, anche nei luoghi più impensati, in una sorprendente capacità di generare futuro […] Dunque, in Cristo siamo semi[…] Lo Spirito di Dio è in grado di trasformare il deserto, arido e riarso, in un giardino, luogo di riposo e serenità […] Insieme alla preghiera, sono necessarie la volontà e le azioni concrete che rendono percepibile questa “carezza di Dio” sul mondo”.
È stata l’occasione per noi per riflettere sulla nostra quotidianità, consapevoli che la pace non nasce all’improvviso come un grande albero, ma cresce da piccoli gesti quotidiani, come un seme che germoglia nel silenzio della terra. Per essere noi semi di pace, dovremmo anzitutto coltivare dentro di noi la riconciliazione con Dio, con noi stessi e con gli altri. Ci siamo soffermati poi su come aiutare i bambini e i giovani ad essere anche loro semi di pace ed è emersa la volontà di passare dalle riflessioni agli atti.
A questo proposito abbiamo colto questa occasione per introdurre il nuovo percorso per ragazzi ai presenti, ricco di attività pratiche che colleghino la pace alla custodia della terra: se distruggiamo la natura, non c’è futuro di pace.
Per questo suor Mirna, per terminare la nostra celebrazione con un atto simbolico, ha chiesto ai presenti di mettere a dimora i fiori che durante la riflessione comunitaria abbiamo deposto davanti al Cristo Crocifisso e Risorto. Questi fiori non resteranno solo un ornamento ma diventeranno semi di vita nuova se trapiantati nella terra. È un modo per dire che la fede non si ferma all’altare ma continua nella cura del creato nella bellezza che cresce e porta frutto.
Opening of the Season of Creation at ECG: “We Are Seeds of Hope”
On the occasion of the beginning of the Season of Creation, which started on September 1, 2025, the volunteers of the Eco Charity Garden gathered to celebrate the 10th World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, held every year on this day. The Season of Creation is an ecumenical time of prayer, reflection, and commitment that extends until October the 4th the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. It is an opportunity to remember that “our goal is not to amass information or to satisfy curiosity, but rather to become painfully aware, to dare to turn what is happening to the world into our own personal suffering and thus to discover what each of us can do about it.” (LS 19)
The theme chosen for 2025 is “Seeds of Peace and Hope.” In his message for the 10th World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, Pope Leo XIV stated: “On the 10th anniversary of the institution of this Day, which coincided with the publication of the Encyclical Laudato Si’, we find ourselves in the midst of the Jubilee as ‘pilgrims of Hope.’ And it is precisely in this context that the theme acquires its full meaning.”
Participants had the opportunity to reflect on the Pope’s message, to take part in a symbolic celebration, and to plant the seed of hope in the Eco Charity Garden planters.
The Pope continued: “The seed gives itself completely to the earth, and there, through the explosive power of its gift, life springs forth, even in the most unexpected places, in a surprising capacity to generate the future. Thus, in Christ we are seeds […] The Spirit of God is able to transform the desert, dry and scorched, into a garden, a place of rest and serenity […] Alongside prayer, willpower and concrete actions are necessary to make this ‘caress of God’ perceptible to the world.”
This was a chance for us to reflect on our daily lives, aware that peace does not suddenly appear like a great tree, but grows from small daily gestures, like a seed sprouting silently in the earth. To be seeds of peace, we must first cultivate reconciliation within ourselves: with God, with ourselves, and with others. We also reflected on how to help children and young people to become seeds of peace themselves, and a shared desire emerged to move from reflection to action.
In this regard, we used this occasion to introduce to those present a new program for young people, rich in practical activities linking peace to the care of the earth: if we destroy nature, there can be no future of peace.
To conclude our celebration with a symbolic act, Sister Mirna invited everyone present to plant the flowers that, during the communal reflection, had been placed before the Crucified and Risen Christ. These flowers will not remain mere decoration, but will become seeds of new life once transplanted into the soil. It is a way of saying that faith does not stop at the altar but continues in the care of creation, in the beauty that grows and bears fruits.
