Eco-Charity garden at a glance

The Eco-Charity Garden project was born from the collaboration between the Sisters of Charity of Saint Jeanne Antida and the Diocese of Rome, with the intention of opening the park to an ecological mission, responding to Pope Francis’s call to live a new individual and communal ecological conversion, as described in the encyclical Laudato si’, on the care of the common home.

Visitors to the Eco-Charity Garden will find a beautiful park where they can have a unique experience of ecological spirituality. Guests will have an immersive and sensory experience in the natural beauty of this garden in the centre of Rome (Via della Greca 11, Rome – click here to see the location): walking, observing, listening, meditating, contemplating, praying and thanking the Creator for the immense gift of creation and its creatures.

Who can visit the garden?

Pilgrims and groups from parishes, Laudato si’ Circles, associations, communities and anyone interested in integral ecology. Access to the garden is by appointment only.

Activities proposed All the activities proposed are intended to accompany the visitor, in a spirit of social friendship and universal brotherhood, towards ecological spirituality and man’s vocation to be a guardian of creation.

The activities include

– Eco-spiritual paths (theological, botanical, artistic)

– Prayer paths (Via Creationis, Ecological Rosary, Ecological Stations of the Cross)

– Celebrations (Mass in Creation)

– Cultural events (meetings with authors, book presentations, conferences, etc.)

– Labyrinth (click here for more)

For those who wish to carry out specific activities in the Park related to integral ecology (conferences, itineraries, Mass in Creation, etc.), they can request it.

Eco-spiritual paths

Via Creationis – Duration: 2 hours

Just as the Via Crucis recalls the mystery of the Passion, the Via Creationis recalls the mystery of creation. It does so by reading side by side the two sacred books that God has written, as taught by St Augustine and other saints throughout history: the book of Scripture and the book of the cosmos.

Walk with Adam – Duration: 1.5 hours

The Walk with Adam offers visitors a way of discovering Adam’s vocation from a biblical point of view, following in the footsteps of Adam as the first guardian of creation, entrusted with the task of caring for the earth and making creation bear fruit.

Eden of Charity – Duration: 2 hours

The Eden of Charity is inspired by Vincentian spirituality and the encyclical Laudato si’. Through sensory experiences, readings, meditations, activities, meetings and silence, the participant will be transported by the cry of the earth, the cry of the poor and the beauty of the universe, caressed by the rays of our brother sun, the freshness of the grass and the benevolent gaze of God the Creator.

The Way of the Breathing Trees – Duration: 2 hours

An itinerary to discover the tree species present in the Eco-Charity Garden. As well as illustrating the botanical and evolutionary characteristics of the largest plants in the garden, the itinerary will tell us about their symbology and the Christian spirituality associated with them.
